To Be Inspired at Work, You Need Inspiring Goals

If you’re not hitting your goals… maybe they’re just too boring.

Many people have trouble achieving goals because the goals are not INSPIRING. They don’t PULL YOU TOWARDS them.

Think about the last few goals you’ve set. Did you get EXCITED when you thought about how that would FEEL? Or were you feeling a little “blah” about them? Was it EASY to achieve those goals, or did it feel like a grind or a slog?

If you’re like most of us, we set really great goals around numbers (conversion, sales, etc) but we may be missing the most important piece—THE INSPIRATION!

My team and I discussed a really inspiring long-term goal today: summers off for all staff (with pay)! I haven’t stopped thinking about that goal all afternoon. True, it may have something to do with the BEAUTIFUL weather we’re experiencing. But the most exciting piece is that the goal is AWESOME!

Our team will work that much harder to achieve this goal because the goal itself is actually PULLING US towards it! Contrast that with the numbers goals I’ve had posted on the office walls for months (which we haven’t hit yet). I think you might see my point.

Be careful when setting Key Performance Indicators and numbers goals to also include some INSPIRING GOALS. I have found that one of the biggest reasons goals aren’t achieved is because they don’t LIGHT PEOPLE UP, or pull the people towards them.

Here’s a video by Tony Robbins talking about setting inspiring goals:

Most of your existing goals are probably great, but you just need to tie them in with something even more inspiring.

Ask your team—they know what’s inspiring!
